LaKesha Sowell is a native of Houston, TX. She has been dancing since the age of 5, training in various techniques such as ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip hop, and tumbling. By the age of 6, LaKesha attended her first national competition where her team won 1st place overall.
Over 11 years of competition, LaKesha was recognized for her passion for dance through many awards ranging from special awards to scholarships. The life-changing award, which she won twice within a three-year window, was the “Future Star Award” where she was featured in Dance Spirit Magazine.
After graduating from high school, LaKesha joined various other companies such as Suchu Dance Company, Son Kiss’d, and Soreal Performing Arts Center all while attending college. During this time, she also began to teach basic technique to kids ages four-eighteen.
In addition to teaching LaKesha continued to attend workshops and conventions to better her understanding of dance. During these times, she continued to receive awards ranging from Debbie Allen Scholarship, a scholarship to Complexions, becoming a Pulse Protégé, and the opportunity to dance in one of Beyonce’s music videos.
LaKesha has had the opportunity to choreograph projects such as competition solos, duets, and small groups for various dance teams. Her choreography has received recognition by industry leading artists such as Chonique Sneed, Anthony Burrell, and Destini Rogers. These pieces have won first place overall, Hall of Fame MVP, and been nominated for Choreography Choice Awards.
LaKesha has graced the stage of Dancescape, Dancerpalooza, and Carnival. She has become a member of two prestigious companies, Blacklight Society and Jacob Jonas – The Company. She has also assisted in choreography for music videoes and live shows for local bands and artist.
LaKesha Sowell graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She plans to take her commercial dance and choreography to the next level.
